It's a go....

I heard back from my contact at the University of Belize today and the gig is a go! Yippee!! I should be in Belmopan, Belize by the end of January. This is what I'll be doing:

POSITION TITLE: Environmental Education Outreach Officer, Natural Resources Management Program (NRMP), University of Belize.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Environmental Education Outreach Officer will be responsible for designing, coordinating and implementing a viable plan for students in the Natural Resources and Management Program at the University of Belize to promote environmental awareness and “bring life” to primary and secondary school classrooms throughout Belmopan. The Officer will be responsible for drafting a plan of action for students participating in the Environmental Education Outreach Project, and contacting and liaising with the Ministry of Education and school officials to introduce the project to them, seek approval from them and coordinate with them appropriate dates/times for implementation of the project. Along with students participating in the project, the Officer will be responsible for designing: a broad range of classroom and field-based activities (based on topics such as recycling, waste management, food webs etc.), protocols for the delivery of those activities, and protocols for the preparation and maintenance of any materials (potted plants, terrariums and aquariums) left behind at the schools and at the University for future use. A major responsibility of the Officer will be to work along and oversee the students participating in the project so that they carry out the project successfully. In addition, the Officer will be responsible for the following: designing an objective measure to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the students participating in the project at promoting environmental awareness in the primary and secondary classrooms that they visit, creating a public relations tool(s) based on the outreach project that can be used to promote the NRMP to prospective students and audiences at large, and drafting a plan of action for expanding the environmental outreach project.

DELIVERABLES:
Manual of classroom and field-based activities for primary (infant, middle and upper divisions) and secondary schools, which includes protocols on delivery, and preparation and maintenance of materials used in activities.
Successful placement of 5+ students in classrooms to deliver material in the manual.
One or more public relations tool(s) (video, poster, etc.) for NRMP based on project.
Evaluation tool to assess performance and effectiveness of students participating in project.
Draft plan of action for expansion of environmental education outreach project.
Monthly progress reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree in Biology or Biology Education.
Significant experience working in education outreach projects.
Supervisory and organizational experience.
Field experience.
High level of creativity.

DURATION OF POSITION: 1-2 semesters
